Our Sheep and Their Lambs
We have 43 ewes, 2 rams and 19 lambs (so far) here on the ranch. Normally we plan to lamb during the colder months of the year to cut down on infections, overheating and other issues. Most of our ewes were hand raised, on the bottle by us 2 years ago, so they are very friendly! They will come right up to you and nibble on your clothing or fingers to try to get your attention. We purchased about 15 ewes at the Newell Sheep Yard in the fall of 2022 and they are still warming up to us. Our first set of lambs this year are from our original set of ewes. The second wave of lambs will be in arriving the next few months. We currently have just 1 bottle lamb who we have nicknamed 'Piggy', due to her devouring an entire bottle without a flinch in a matter of 2 minutes! We have had to pull just about every lamb that has been born here this year due to our rams throwing such large babies! Watching the lambs run and play in the barn is so entertaining. They will whiz right by you, bouncing off the feeders, walls and each other!
